This essay will demonstrate my knowledge and understanding of the contribution to qualitative research to Psychology through the discussion of published qualitative research. Firstly, what is qualitative research and how does this differ from qualitative research? The participants ranged from their late 30’s to e arly 60’s. The siblings with schizophrenia ranged in ages 20 to late 50’s. Four of the participants were older and two were younger than their sibling with schizophrenia. The participants interacted with their siblings on a daily or weekly basis. The researchers used the interview approach which was used to elicit each participant’s thoughts and feelings. Semi-structured interviews allowed the participant to talk about their experiences in a quiet controlled environment. This qualitative method also allows the researcher to gain a deep understanding of how the participants copes having a sibling with schizophrenia. The interviews were recorded and lasted 45-90 minutes in which each participant got to choose the location of the interview. The 2nd interview was conducted 3 months later to allow the researchers to confirm that the account given in the 1st interview was an accurate analysis. Each participant stated that the previous summary given was an accurate acc ount of their experience. The data from the interview was translated verbatim. Most qualitative methods require analysis to be transcribed verbatim (Willig et al., 2001). During the doll festival, dolls represent the peach trees – without the peach trees, the dolls would represent nothing. A similar event happened in the life of a young boy who lost an orchard of peach trees after being cut down, one after another, by his own family. They first speculated on the boy’s innocence and they found out how the boy loved the peach trees and the orchard. The dolls, being moved by the boy’s tears and sympathy, performed a slow graceful dance. The dance was accompanied with gagaku music and after the dance the boy saw an illusion of the peach trees in full blossom. However, it was only momentarily. The truth eventually came out, where the scene shows the chopped peach trees in the orchard. Nevertheless, a glimpse of hope was provided for the boy after seeing that there is a new peach tree in the orchard and it was just about his height. The young girl who ran to the orchard may be the representative of/ or doll symbolizing the new peach tree. They became Quakers, and then became antislavery and womens rights speakers and activists - in fact, they were the only white Southern women known to be part of the abolitionist movement. Grimkà ©s family was prominent in Charleston, South Carolina, society, and were major slaveholders. Angelina was the youngest of fourteen siblings and was always closest with her older sister, Sarah, who was thirteen years older than her. As a teenager, she began her first anti-slavery activities by teaching her familys slaves about religion. Her faith became a major part of the foundation of her abolitionist views, believing that slavery was an un-Christian and immoral institution, although other Christians of her time had found Bible verses and interpretations that they could claim supported slavery. Because of the way that her fellow Presbyterian endorsed slavery, Grimkà ©s abolitionist beliefs were not welcomed, and she was expelled from the church in 1829.
